L’Aubaine is Swiss visual artist Laurie Bender. She started performing live visuals in 2005 while studying a master in Digital Arts in Barcelona, slowly crafting and developing her unique style over the years, mixing analogue with digital techniques. In 2015, she became part of VJ London, helping organise the regular VJ meet-up and showcase. She’s performed at a whole host of festivals, events and club nights in Europe and her latest collaboration is with American electronica producer Kate Simko and the London Electronic Orchestra for their Royal Albert Hall performance.

Organic, graphical, painterly and mainly abstract L’Aubaine’s work has a handmade feel, imperfect, bold and very colourful like a painter with a canvas, but creating live compositions for her VJ set. Her clips are mostly 2D hand-drawn animations, simple shapes and paintings, often braking out of the rectangular screen with mapped compositions and the use of mesh, she also often uses an analogue video synth to create textures and lines.
